If you stay in Florence during Easter holidays, do not miss the opportunity to take part in the Burst of the Cart, which is held a few steps from Residenza Castiglioni.
Every Easter Sunday, in fact, is renewed an ancient tradition, awaited all the year round from Florentines and tourists. Since 1622 a huge chariot, called "Brindellone" and filled with fireworks, is blown up in Piazza Santa Maria del Fiore, after the celebration of the Mass of 11 a.m. The archbishop lights up a rocket shaped like a dove - the colombina - and all the spectators follow its way from inside the Duomo to the Brindellone. If the colombina activates the explosion of all the fireworks, the year will be lucky, otherwise it is a sad prediction for the future.
